Mayfield natives, now in California, give back to Racer student athletes
Donors
Tommy, ’87, and Sandy, ’87, Draffen
Gift
Major gift to Racer Athletics for improvements to the facilities in Roy Stewart Stadium, recognized with the naming of the “Tommy and Sandy Draffen Performance Level” on Level 1 of Roy Stewart Stadium
Impact
This gift directly impacts the experience, training opportunities and quality of life for Murray State University’s 350+ student athletes. The long-term goal is to create a complete Performance Center addressing the strength and conditioning, nutrition, treatment and rehabilitation of our current and future Racers. Major renovations to this aim have already been made to the football team room and lounge and the weight room, with much more to come.
Inspiration
Originally from Mayfield, Kentucky, the Draffens still hold Murray State and their experiences as students close to their hearts. They come back to Murray several times a year both to visit family as well as attend athletic events and cheer on today’s generation of Racers. Additionally, Tommy recently served on the Be Bold National Campaign Council. They are very excited to be able to play a part in enhancing the experience of Murray State’s student-athletes.
